Past

‘A sense of imaginative possibility that is impossible not to embrace. Uniformly excellent, Rough Fiction push the boundaries between movement and the spoken word’ (What’s On Stage)

**** ‘Highly Recommended. The deconstructive flair of The Wooster Group Playing Pirandello’ (The Metro on Hospitals and Other Buildings That Catch Fire)

**** ‘Wonderfully atmospheric… boldly original’ (The List on Killing Alan)

The Last of The Lake

This was a touring production produced in association with The Point Eastleigh, Newbury Corn Exchange and Co-commissioned by Brighton Dome.

**** ‘Defies categorisation … It’s so visually strong that the experience is comparable to reading a graphic novel … this dreamy, trippy theatrical experience is one that stays with you long after the curtain call’ (The Good Review)

How To Fly And Other Useful Skills

This participatory show with young people aged 14-16 was the result of one of our Learn & Train creative residences with Bishops Stortford College.

It will definitely help me make theatre in the future.  One thing I learnt was the ability to react to peoples’ offers and build on them. I would love to do it again, it has really helped me look at different ways to perform drama. Residency Participant.

His Wild Imaginings

This co-production with London Arts Orchestra is an ambitious, large-scale orchestra-theatre show we continue to develop over the long-term. It takes Hector Berlioz’ romantic masterpiece Symphonie Fantastique and the true story behind its creation as a blueprint for a new cross arts production. We aim to engage new audiences with classical music, and develop a unique working relationship between visual theatre-makers and classical musicians.

Enter the imagination of man on the verge of creating one of the romantic movement’s most famous and unexpected symphonies –  a symphony written out of a composer’s unrequited love for an actress, and his passion for Shakespearean tragedy.

Here is a mini-documentary that reveals the ideas and true story behind the production alongside footage from the first development performance presented to an invited audience at LSO St Luke’s in July 2015

The Ensemble Laboratory

ran from 2010 – 2014 supported by host venues in London and provided the ensemble members space to work and train together every week. The Love of The Nightingale by Timberlake Wertenbaker  was the Ensemble Lab company’s full-scale pop-up production.

‘If you like your theatre inventive and fun, this one’s for you. Rough Fiction is a new company which stages existing fictional works in contemporary, impromptu performances.  In the case of The Love of The Nightingale … that means a different venue each Sunday, and a cast which shuffles parts on a weekly basis. If that all sounds super-serious, fret not: the show is a hoot. It’s full of songs and sniggers in amidst some genuinely touching moments. (LeCool).
